A Georgetown author’s series has been likened to a new Game of Thrones … but, it’s rooted in history.
Martin McAlear is preparing for the debut of his second published novel, the second instalment in The New Reign series: The New Queen.
Set in the early 1500s in medieval Europe, the novel plays off the power struggle of warring kingdoms of the period. The novel revolves around the recently widowed queen of Castile, and her journey to solidifying the kingdom.
“I just start writing,” McAlear said. “I have a beginning and an end, but no clear path between them.”
Writing seven days a week for two to six hours each day, McAlear’s first draft of the novel spanned 1,200 pages, cut down by an editor to just under 600.
“After five years I finished the second book, the first book was written in four weeks,” McAlear said.However, after changing publishers between novels, he said he has plans to revise and rewrite the first novel in the future.
So far, McAlear said, the reviews of his new novel have been positive.
The New Queen, and its predecessor, The New King, are expected to be available on Amazon and at local bookstores.
